OpenPOWER Summit North America 2019

This talk will provide an overview of the on-chip Self Boot Engine (SBE) hardware and firmware first shipped on POWER9 based systems. This talk will further give an understanding of how the SBE plays a key role in enabling several significant and futuristic architectural imperatives in OpenPOWER systems like hardware abstraction, secure boot, RAS and host offloads that enable key features. The talk will finally conclude with examples of system-level use-cases and flows that highlight the role and significance of the SBE as critical and futuristic architectural element in OpenPOWER systems, starting POWER9.
